This Podcast Got Me Back Into a Workout Routine
Hi friends! I had been planning to write this post way back in January (before I disappeared into a wedding planning hole)—crazy how time flies! But it’s still very * pertinent * to the situation today, so here we go! Do you listen to podcasts? I’ve been pretty into them for the last few years, but had always stuck to shows with an educational or news-oriented vibe. Then someone at work recommended The Morning Toast. 💥
The Toast, dubbed “the millennial morning show,” is hosted by sisters Claudia (aka @girlwithnojob) and Jackie Oshry who (hilariously) discuss and debate the latest pop culture news. After laughing out loud during a few episodes, I was hooked (how often does a podcast make you literally LOL?). Each episode is usually between 45 minutes and an hour (too long for a morning work commute), so I started reserving them for the gym. In a period when I was struggling to consistently work out, having this podcast to look forward to on the treadmill made all the difference. It made hitting the gym feel like a treat—something I really enjoyed—rather than something to just get done, along with X number of other things on the average weekday.
I have to admit, I struggled a little bit at first with letting myself tune into The Morning Toast instead of NPR’s The Daily or something else with more substance. But I decided that it’s more than OK (even healthy!) to have guilty pleasures and more than OK to not always consume to LEARN. Sometimes, you just need to be entertained. Some people might balk at supporting someone who “takes selfies from bed” all day, but Claudia Oshry is actually a strong example of what so many millennials are doing these days—creating their own careers and living by their own rules. And I definitely don’t balk at that.
The sisters have been on a two-week hiatus from the show (😭), but they’re back on Monday August 5! Tune in if you need some gym motivation (or just a laugh).
What podcasts are in your library? I like Up First for a quick morning news update, and Goal Digger and The Influencer Podcast to passively learn about social media, marketing and entrepreneurship. I tune into The goop Podcast and Super Soul Conversations on Sundays when I want something deeper and potentially spiritual. And I’ve recently started listening to the Wit & Delight podcast since Kate is local! I’d love to hear your recs in the comments!
