C'est Nice

Both starting a new job (it’s been a little bumpy this week) and the current post-COVID climate (people reassessing their values and purpose, launching new entrepreneurial ventures, etc) has me thinking a lot about my passions and vision for myself—mostly in a professional/financial sense.

Liz Joy, who I follow on Instagram, shared some thoughts on her Stories yesterday about just doing the thing you want to do (whether it’s starting an Etsy shop or sharing your style on social media) because tomorrow isn’t guaranteed AND you don’t know where the work you do now will lead in the future. Liz shared how she was working in Human Resources when she started an Etsy shop, which slowly turned into over 300K Instagram followers and a thriving lifestyle brand. She also just built the most gorgeous house on the Connecticut coast. Goals!

I haven’t determined what my vision for myself is, but I don’t think I’m there yet. In the meantime, I’ve been inspired to start sharing my daily outfits and personal style here (again) after being an on-and-off blogger since 2012. I haven’t seen a steady climb in readership over that period or landed big brand partnerships, and it can be discouraging. But I guess Liz’s stories are a little midweek inspiration to just keep doing the damn thing, for you, regardless of ROI.

And for me, today, that means snapping outfit photos on my deck with my iPhone tripod after a long day at work (I’m sure my elderly neighbors are entertained)—and WEARING THESE AMAZING FAUX LEATHER PANTS. I always kind of felt like you had to be a size two to wear something like body-hugging leather pants, but I guess just like I’m trying not to worry about what some random person thinks about my outfit photos or my end game, I don’t care that I don’t look like a VS model in these pants. They make me happy, and that’s enough. 👊

What’s your thing … that you want to do but are maybe a little insecure about?

Parting thoughts: just do it.
