Meet Baby Cash

Cassius Christopher Pramann
born Sunday, March 19 at 2:57 pm
8 lbs. 21 inches long

He’s here! Baby Cash arrived right on time, on his due date—with a full head of dark hair and deep blue eyes. The birth itself was extremely smooth, but the 48 hours leading up to it were not pleasant. I started having contractions on Thursday night. Unsure of what real labor would feel like, we went to the hospital around 2AM, and then again on Friday evening, getting sent home both times because I was hardly dilated. I was extremely uncomfortable, so it was frustrating to get sent home with no help for the pain (twice). I spent most of Saturday in bed with a heating pad watching March Madness and trying to relax, determined not to go back to the hospital until I was sure it was time. By Saturday night I thought maybe my water had broke, so I called the nurse line, and she recommended I head to the hospital. When I arrived, they confirmed my water had indeed broke, so I was admitted to a really nice and spacious suite in the family birth center. I ordered some toast and fruit, then was offered some morphine so I could sleep comfortably through the night (and contractions). I was so relieved to be in a comfortable space, to have some relief, and that things were happening. I barely remember the next morning, but at some point I got the epidural, and then the nurse casually asked if I was ready to start pushing. The delivery was so much less chaotic than I imagined it would be based on what you see in movies and TV. It was quite calm—and pain-free. It was just the four of us in the room (doctor, nurse, Chris, and me), and I remember the sun streaming in through the big windows. After pushing for an hour, Cash was here! We spent the next 24 hours in the hospital going through routine tests and checks before heading home as a family of THREE! Scroll for the baby products we’ve been relying on most during the first 2 weeks, plus a few FAQs.

Our most-used baby products during the first 2 weeks

The snuggle me organic lounger is by far our most-used gift! Cash sleeps in it almost all day, every day, and I got two covers so I have a backup when one is dirty. As far as clothes go, Lou Lou & Company is our favorite. Their knotted gowns make diaper changes easy and all of their clothes (including these sets) are super-soft, which makes them easy to get on and off (not the case with some of the cheaper onesies we have). We also had a hard time clipping Cash’s fingernails at first, but found the Frida Baby nail file to work the best. And this formula mixing pitcher is a must for getting a few bottles ready to go at once, especially when prepping for night feedings.

Birth story FAQs

Where did you deliver?
Maple Grove Hospital. My preferred hospital was actually full, so I was diverted to Maple Grove, and am so happy it worked out that way—we had a really great experience there.

Most surprising thing about your birth experience?
The contractions and pain starting days before delivery and the postpartum cramping/stomach pain (which lasted about 3 weeks for me). I don’t feel like people talk about this!

Is Cash named after anyone?
His middle name is his dad’s name. And we just liked the name Cassius (pronounced Cash-us)—especially the nickname Cash.

First post-delivery meal?
Jimmy John’s Italian Night Club and diet Coke. 😋

What are you most excited about doing now that you’re not pregnant?
Honestly, just being able to sleep on my back and get up and down from the couch without strain is a win! I’m excited to be able to eat and drink whatever I want again and enjoy a glass of wine—which I haven’t done much of yet because of how I’ve been feeling. And I can’t wait to take Cash for walks around the neighborhood once it finally warms up in Minnesota.
